I have the first model G4Ti that came out, (g4, 400mhz, upgraded to 640mb ram, etc...)

I have been using Reason 1.0 for about 2 years, getting 2.5 in a few weeks.

I'm looking for an "evironment" to work in, using primarily Reason + Recycle w/ Peak for editing etc...

My questions is: How much potential does my (now out of date) G4 have running Logic6? Emagic "recommends" a seperate hardisk recorder, which I wont be getting any time soon.

Is it realistic to run Logic6 (platinum) on this G4? Will I run into any limitations quickly?

sorry for the vague post, appreciate any feedback.

The question is more if you will be able to get a good and steady OSX version running on your G4. There won't be big problems running Logic 6 inly limitations to what you can do. Actually the new Freeze function (for getting the CPU load down by rendering the realtime plug ins you use) will get some of the load of.

MIDI-wise there won't be any problems, just like any other Logic it is subleme. And when you upgrade your computer in the future you will love 6...

Thanks for the reply Jan,

BTW, I'm running OS9.2, I was under the impression that Logic6 would work fine with OS9.2?

I guess another question I have is, Is Logic the ideal program for someone who doesn't really record much (from microphone sources, keyboards, external gear etc...)? I am all software based...

And one more thing, I'm planning on buying Logic6 Platinum, Does it come with instruments? I was reading the emagic site and it was not clear... I know about the 53 plug-ins, but I'm worried about having to drop even more money to buy softsynth plug-ins etc......

thanks,

you should buy logic big box. if you are not needing TDM support. I think that logic big box will give you all the power you need. plus it comes with the exsp24 sampler, es1, and evp73. has support for vst and audio units. you will save some money :-). check into it.

If you are in the US, you should be able to get a $700 rebate for that machine if you purchase a new Powerbook.

Take a look at Think Secret

Def only runs on OSX. You should also check Steinbergs Nuendo 2 and Cubase SX if you only work soft. SX is great value for money.
