Hi, I will be going to Burning Man this year & am being encouraged to bring some of my gear out to do some performing/DJing. The only thing is I have no grasp whatsoever of the logistics. I have an amp & speakers & thought about setting up right in front of my RV but am not real sure if this is even practical. Also not real sure about bringing my Laptop due to the amount of dust & grit that is sure to be around. I might just bring a DJ mixer & a couple of CD players & a whole stack of CDRS & jack around with them & some effects & my Kaoss pad. Has anyone ever done anything like this. Any feedback on your experiences or suggestions would help.

hi,
i think that to do anything at burning man, could be chalenging for the equipment. i went there in '96,stayed for about 10 days,we busted a LOT of things, ranging from DAT players to electric shavers.that bloody dust gets everywhere, and it's not just dust,it's got a lot of salt in it (the place used to be a lake loooong time ago) and that sticks to anything. i recommend that you bring a LOT of plastic wrap, and seal every bit of gear you've got(air tight),and it should protect your gear quite well, but the salt can do marvels... i don't know if it's a constant ,but when the sun sets, the wind picks up,carrying all the dust-salt,so take care with that. i hope this is of any help, have lots of fun, d. |

You lucky person. I'd love to go to this festival. Seen some film on the tv where they did have duststorms so would be wary of using expensive equipment.
I do quite a lot of outdoor gigs in UK but have yet to worry about dust. it's usually rain or cold. Did some parties over the winter when the laptop and cd players both froze up. Roll on the Summer.! -------------------- |
