Hows it goin, this might sound kinda immature but anyways here goes:
Ok I bought a dual 2.0 ghz g5 w/ the 23in HD display (cheap jk) I told my friends about it who are also computer enthusiats (but mac haters) one said "Oh you bought a $2000 word processor" another said "You do know that the AMD 64 and the P4 EE absolutly smoke your computer right???" umm is all that true. I know it's what I want for music but is what they all said true???? Thanks alot SIntrepid |

Slowintrepid,
Macs are excellent computers for music and any other application. Ask your friends how many viruses they've had to deal with. Honestly. Take a poll. If they've had a virus, they own a PC. Just yesterday I spoke with two of my friends who are infected. Both computers are PCs. Mac users rarely get them. I love my iMac and so do my PC friends. Willis |

1. Ask them what professional audio software they are running
2. Anything else doesn't count (i.e. Metro, Band in a Box, etc.) 3. Chances are they'll avoid the answer, because... 4. No, when it comes to pro-level complex processing, such as audio/video/hi-res imaging, the PC's are left in the processing dust. 5. You bought a GREAT machine - don't let 'em kid ya - they're only jealous... Have FUN! P.S. Oh, yeah, ask them about the number of viruses they get...I've been using Macs since 1986,, and I've gotten two viruses - both from PC disks... |

yeah all they do with their comps is play online games. (so I guess in that area they have a one up)
so............with so little viruses I guess it was a waste of money to buy the .mac subscription???? also a little side note: it's a G5 and I have jaguar is panther really worth the upgrade (like other than it's a 64-bit OS what's the big deal????) |

Yes; it's def worth the potter..
you'll find your G5 with about 40% better performance (mine did) which is a lot.... Do check availebility off drivers for hardware you use....not all are panther yet |

Dont worry, a good anti-virus program is always a good idea.
Remeber that quite a few macro-viruses can infect your Mac - via word-documents and the like. Play it safe - antvirus sw can always be disabled while recording audio, if you suspect that "Norton" interferes. Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================

Panther is absolutely worth it. I have never seen an upgrade do so much for a computer. Really! You will immediately see a positive difference.

think I have only had 2 viruses in my life of owning a mac since my 8500 was new many years ago... I have never used any virus protection since... it may not be a bad idea to have but I really don't think your average person needs to worry themselves over it. I know off hand 3-5 other people with about the same experience with macs and viruses in the homes... they don't use antivirus software either.
But if it makes you feel safe... then buy it and use it. -------------------- ----------------------------------------

Only one virus, a gentle one, burn by Virus Barrier in 32 months of Mac use (9.1, 9.2.2, Panther...)..
Save your money for something else more musical!!! Some friends, with PC, about one virus attack/month that their anti-virus soft didn't protected... -------------------- LE PRINTEMPS DES AMOUREUX
