Hi everyone. I see a lot of people on these forums apologizing for their English. Maybe you've had bad experiences with rude Americans on other forums. But this website is French and you've all got good questions and information, and your English is not so bad. You should hear my French some time.

that's all,

have a good day.

Jay

Sorry, Jay Nixnutz. We got carried away in French. This is not polite at all. And you were so nice with ze Froggies.
In France English is an important subject at school but, as for all the other subjects, French people are taught to feel guilty if they produce anything which is 'not correct'. This inhibits them all their lives.
You must forgive them for jumping back to French ASAP. They feel safer.
I'm English and I too think they are very courageous to use English. We understand their English perfectly and we wouldn't have got full marks at their schools either. Every time I've helped neighbours kids (in their last years at secondary school) doing a translation or an essay, the teachers make unjust comments about parts I think are much better than what the teachers say is 'correct'. Part of my job is correcting scientific articles for publication in international journals, so I don't think my English is worse than the wot the teechas speek.

Maybe I'm a bit hard on them. 'Nonanglosaxophone' ;-) teachers of English do speak quite well - the stupid marking-to-exclude tradition is the real nasty castrating beastie!
