Uad-1, Lp 8 Et Fw-1884, CPU spiking, and halting of playback Options

Some users are experiencing problems with Apple Mac Pro computers and Logic 8, when used with UAD Powered Plug-Ins. The problems manifest as CPU spiking, and occasional halting of playback. They seem to occur more often on the 8-core model. We have determined that this problem stems from the unique way in which Logic 8 treats plug-ins on a track with no audio currently passing through it. We are currently examining workarounds but have no definitive solution at this time. Please note that other hosts besides Logic 8 work fine with UAD-1e on the Mac Pro models, including the 8-core.

Non, parce que là, je craque. Il se passe ce qui est dit dans la citation ci-dessus : il y a des piques de saturation moteur audio, et la lecture s'arrête purement et simplement, sanctionnée par le fameux affichage qui nous indique que le moteur audio est surchargé, blah-blah. Et moi, je n'ai pas un nouveau Mac 8 cœurs : le mien, c'est un bête macPro Xeon 2 x 2,66.

Un projet LP8, 52 pistes audio, quasi aucun plugs de Logic Pro, tout plein de plugs de l'UAD (j'ai 3 cartes), mais qui n 'arrivent pas à 70% du CPU des cartes.

Sur ces 52 pistes, j'en redistribue dans 8 ou 10 bus (ce sont des prises avec plusieurs mics - batterie, guitares, etc)...

Et ben, je peux plus avancer : i am blocked.

PLEASE, dites-moi qu'il y a une solution !!

Mon Mac :

• macPro Xeon 2 x 2,66
• Version du système : Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167)
• Version du noyau : Darwin 8.11.1
• 8 Go de RAM
• 2 DD interne dont 1 avec le système + les applis, et l'autre les fichiers (et la song) + des externes pour les banques de sons etc, mais là, ils ne sont pas sollicités
• Double écran affichage 1600 x 1200
• Carte son : Tascam FW-1884 + FE-8

Réglages carte son et audio Logic :
• Plus grande latence possible sur la Tascam - pas grave, c'est un mix...
• Idem pour LP, j'ai essayé de faire au mieux dans le soulagement de la machine, en vain.

# Driver AUD-1 :
• Version 4.10
• 4096 samples de latence

Here are some things you can try to improve performance...

LOGIC SETTINGS:
You can adjust the CORE AUDIO settings in Logic. You should try changing the 'Process Buffer Range' to Large. This is suggested by Apple.

UAD CONFIGURATION SETTINGS:

Under the UAD Performance Meter/ UAD Configuration... Set the UAD Configuration 'Force Logic LIVE mode'. The 'Force Logic LIVE mode' should be used whenever you want to add UAD-1 plug-ins on tracks in Logic while recording midi/audio parts instead of just at the mix stage.

Here are some things you can check in your system. Make sure that your audio interface buffer settings are at a minimum of 512 (or try 1024). Lower settings will cause jitter and audio artifacts. Experiment with MIN_GNT settings in the UAD Meter / File / Configuration. The MIN_GNT adjusts the priority of the PCI bus and may help to 'integrate' the UAD with your host app. Try to increate the MIN_GNT setting from 64 (default) to 128. NOTE: Make sure you do this with your audio application closed... Once you make the adjustment open the audio application run a session and see if this helps. If it does not help you can try adjusting the other way (decrease MIN-GNT value). Don't forget to close the audio application...THEN make the adjustment to the UAD...THEN open the audio application again. If moving the value UP or DOWN negatively effects your system then go back to the default value of 64.

I also received the following from a Logic/UAD user.. ' The i/o safety buffer was set on.... when I turn that one off it all got ALOT better'

C'est ce que j'avais déjà lu sur l'unofficial UAD Forum.

En gros, il n'y a pas de solution pour l'instant, il faut tenter de bidouiller voir si ça marche.
Je vous dis ça demain, là, tout de suite, je vais dodo.

(Mais ça fait un choc, là, tout de suite, que mes 3 cartes à 1000 boules chaque (voir plus, rappelle plus) + mon macPro à 3000 et mon Logic à 500 (de mémoire fatiguée), bref du matos que j'ai payé au prix fort pour, JUSTEMENT, ne plus avoir d'embrouilles de ce type... 'fin bref.)
