I am trying to record my Sax into Cubase SE. The route is this:
From a Macki mixer, to an OMNI i/o, thrugh a Quattro Midi interface, Midied into a Roland SS88 keyboard Workstation, and on into Cubase in my Mac, useing OSX, Via USB from the Quattro. I can play Midi files thrugh this system out to the mains, But playing the keyboard or the Sax back into the Compuiter isn't working. I have checked all my settings over and over again. Midi thrugh, Local off, Midi soft thrugh, ETC. I have two Midi cables IE. IN and OUT. It seams that I have no Midi signal going back into the compuiter from the Quattro. The OMNI i/o is what I'm using for the Sax. Is this problem between the Quattro and the Compuiter? Or what? Your help would be great. |

Um,,, I am not shure you know what midi is, in fact I know you have not clue whatsoever...
I don't meen to be mean, but that's how it goes. MIDI is not audio. In fact is has nothing to do with audio (exept the end result). You sax is not a midi instrument. Trust me on this as I am a sax player also. I am not going to pretend to know what all of the interfaces you mentioned are, because as I see it they are no use to you or me with you lack of know it all. If you want to record the sax, run a line from your mackie (some sort of audio out, like mains out or headphome out) to the line in of your mac. Choose an audio track in Cubase ( I have never had luck with Cubase) and record the adio track of your sax....... (I am assuming that you have the sax some how miced to the Mackie). -------------------- kaboombahchuck

you two are crazy, if you aren't trying to get an m-audio omni i/o to convert audio into midi, then you're about to run a cable from your mains outlet into your mac line input (only kidding, i know you didn't mean that kaboombahchuck).
anyway, midi and audio are totally different - audio to a computer is a digital representation of sound (like the saxophone recorded through a microphone into the omni going through usb to the computer). Midi is a computer language that (mainly) tells electronic instruments and computers which notes should be played and when. try not to get midi and audio confused i am city pigeon |

Boy, are we having fun with this one or what? I'm sorry I should have said that I'm having TWO, TWO SEPREATE problems. One with MIDI and one with AUDIO. My MIDI link was not a compleet loop untill I It appears that the USB hubs in the back of the tower aren't good for Midi, however when I plug into the USB jack on the keyboard witch is plugged into the same USB jacks in the back of the tower that wouldn't work, I get those lovely words, MIDI RECEIVED. Go figure. So now the loop is complete in OS9 MIDI IN and MIDI OUT. However in OSX I still have a problem.
Now as for the AUDIO, I was told that I could record AUDIO into the Computer by the OMNI i/o. I guess that I will just use the Mike in. It seams that that is the simplest way. |

From what you have said so far, I be willing to bet you do not have the correct drivers for your midi and audio hardware.
I'm not shure what an OMNI is, but if it has a sound i/o ports, then you should be able to use that to record audio with. -------------------- kaboombahchuck

Well, I changed things around a bit, and low and behold. MIDI RECEIVED ! MIDI OUT ! AUDIO IN, AND AUDIO OUT! One thing I did was: In my misery and discouragement I opened an old program called Melody Assistant in OSX and BADA BING! Everything worked. I haven't given up on Cubase yet. I think it could be a good program. However I will set it aside for the moment.
Thanks for your input kaboombahchuck But I knew I had the right drivers. By the way what program do you use? Been playing Sax long? My buddy and I broke everything down and reconnected it all. The only problem is that we did so many things that I don't know what we did to fix it. I do know that the Melody Assistant came right on line with everything working first try. I should do some more reserch on editing programs and find something that works for me. Thanks for your imput guys this is a good place. |

I use Metro 6, with a MOTU 828 mkII. A whole bunch of other stuff, but that's the meat of it, that and the G5
I've been playing sax for around 25 years now. I don't have one here right now.. Traded the soprano for a tenor, and now I'm waiting for it to show up (custom order). I do have a Yamaha WX5 wind midi controller to keep me going till then. -------------------- kaboombahchuck

I will half to give Metro 6 a try. I have forty three Saxophones right now , Tenor Alto and Soprano. My most treasured is one that we call The First Conn . This horn is 107 years old. A 1898 C.G. Conn Alto with the serial number 831. It's a player too. I have never ben so in love with anything like these horns. I have never played a wind Midi controller. They seem interesting, but not the same. Well, have a good day.
