Alrighty,so a couple weeks ago I purchased a 410 for my powermac g5 1.8 SP right out the box it did not work computer would not reconize it. I tried reinstalling the drivers numerous times and bought a new cable still nothing. Tech support suggested upgrading from 10.3.7 to 10.3.9. Before I did this I sent the 410 back and got a new one in the meantime I did the software upgrades.
I have never had anything else plugged into the computer that is firewire. The device does power I get the flashing blue light. When I go to the system profile I get no information for the device tree but only if the 410 is plugged in without it it's normal. The only thing I can think of is the firewire port on the computer is bad but I'm having a hard time comprehending that since it's new and I never used it before and it does power the device. Anyone got any advice before I lug the computer out to have the firewire tested? Similiar problem? Thanks. |

I have a 410 on one of my Mac G5 dual 2.0, using 10.4.2. I've had problems off and on with it not being recognized when I would upgrade the OS X from various versions (10.3.x) to 10.4.x for example. You have to make sure you have the right M-Audio 410 drivers for the OS X. Have you gone to the M-Audio site and downloaded the appropriate drivers for your OS? They have a bunch of them. And then there's always the repair permissions thing. Here's the M-Audio drivers site:

I've tried reinstalling and the repair permissions numerous times. Did it take a few times of uninstalling and reinstalling to get it to work for you? I also used the most current driver for the os 10.3.9. I plan on upgrading to Tiger in the next month or two. When your computer wouldn't reconize the 410 did it do the same thing I described? |

Yes, I had to do the reinstall a couple of times. However, if you've done that several times, then I don't know what further to try. In addition to repair permissions, you might also repair disk, if you haven't already.

I'm gonna sit down tomorrow and try everything a dozen more times then I guess I'll go have my firewire ports tested.
Thanks. |

QUOTE (martiansrevenge @ Aug 26 2005, 20:41) The device does power I get the flashing blue light. Not to be a jerk or anything, but did you switch the power for the 410 on? You're correct in that the (slow) flashing blue light indicates a firewire link between the 410 and your G5, a solid blue light indicates that the 410 will actually "work" (ie: audio in and out). I've had some problems beating the 410 into shape with my iMac G5 running Tiger, but I think I've figured out most of it's idiosyncrasies. |

I bought a FW Solo and couldn't make it work unitl I realized I had to opent the System Prefeference > Sound and set the Input and the Output to right device.
Then, the drivers interface is far from intuitive but you eventually can get around. |
