Hello Everyone,
After weeks of debating, I think I am set on buying the m-audio usb Duo for my recording needs (on a new 15in Tibook). The only thing left I wonder about is any possible conflicts or problems using this device with Cubase SX for Max OS X -- or any problems that you might have encountered. Do you own the Duo or have you heard anything negative about it? thanks! Ben

Hello All,
I am hoping to get some advice on what a good Wave Editor is. I own Cubase SX, but I want a stand alone editor with more flexibility and less hastle to just manipulate one wave file at a time. Back on my PC I was using cool edit pro which I was very happy with. Is there anything comparable out there for apple users? thanks- Ben

Hello,
I have just bought a g4 powerbook with the intent of setting up a mobile studio. I will be using it mainly to multitrack live instruments, at least that has priority over MIDI input (i eventually will use midi). I couldn't imagine needing more than 2 simultaneous inputs. I was hoping to hear from anyone who has experience with an interface with these general specs. Like the m-audio duo, audiophile, or premobile Edirol ua3d, ua5, ua20 the emagic ones or the mbox etc..... I would really like to be able to work completely in OS X. also, I haven't bought any software yet -- so I am hoping to find a hardware-software match that will work right from the get-go! Please let me know if you have a setup that you are happy with -- or not! thanks for any input ben

I own a new G4 powerbook -- and I want to record on to it using the built-in soundcard. (only for a month or so until i can buy an external controller!). I have tried this out using Protools Free (booting up in OS 9), but I experienced a significant delay in monitoring the line in input. ex: I would play a note on my guitar, and then i would hear it a half-second later in my headphones.
so question 1: Is this latency due to the soundcard and is unchangeable? -- or can I reduce it by changing software settings? also, I noticed OS 9 has an option to have the "line in" outputted -- so you can hear it in (almost!) real time when you snap your fingers. I can't find any option on OS X to send the input directly to the output in this way. So, thus i can't tell if there is a latency in OS X as well. question 2: how can you monitor the line input in OS X? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very anxious to know whether i need to immediately run and buy an external controller to work on my multi-tracking projects. smiles, BEN

I've been trying to find the answer to this all day -- but with no luck:
How can I simulataneously hear the "line in" input while it is recording? The OS X system preferences (sound) give no indication that this is even possible! I think this might be called playthrough. I could do this on my SB64 on my old windows computer -- so i must be able to do it here! Please help me! i don't want to have to run out and buy an external soundcard or controller (at least not right away!) many thanks, Ben |
