Old G3 Laptop Memory Problem, Built-in memory test... ?

I have a old-ish G3 laptop that has recently has begun telling me when it starts up that 'the built-in memory test has detected a problem'. Then it's says something about going to a service technician. It's been freezing quite alot lately. Could there be a problem with the RAM somehow? Thanks.
