I would like to set up my mac g4 so I can optimize the dual hard drives when recording. I want to avoid the problems that may occur when recording on the same hard drive as the operating system. Just not sure how to go about setting everything up. It's just me so I'll be recording one track at a time. Then adding the vocals. My setup is as follows. Dual Mac g4 Running os x panther operating system Motu digital performer dp4 Reason 2.5 and rebirth software Mackie 1202vlz pro mixer (for the mic pre's) Edirol ua-20 usb hook up Baby bluebird mic Ketron SD1 plus keyboard
Also brought a Glyph 80gb hard drive for storage. Not sure how to transfer data back and forth to it. Do you save just the finished songs unfinshed songs?? I'm somewhat new to setting this all up. Any help, advice or references to where I could find detailed articles on this would greatly be appreciated. Thanx to all

just use one HD for all your apps and documents and use the second drive to record only your audio files and do not install any system OS or app on it. Just format it and maybe partition it depending on your needs. I partitioned my Glyph firewire dirve into many 640mb partitions and called them "studio a" "studio b" etc. This way... I devote certain song projects to certain song studios and if one partition gets filled, I back find the smaller partitions are nice for making quick CDR backups
