E-MU ESI2000, need some advice |

Is anyone using the cheap ES12000 sampler from E-MU? I was just wondering if any users had upgraded the memory and if they know a place to find the low-profile SIMMS at a cheap price. E-MU is selling 64mb LP SIMMS for $250 and that just seems rediculous. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Synthetic,
I have an ESi 4000 and I beleive the memory requirement is the same. Try www.crucial.com (very cheap memory) and follow the requirements below, bear in mind that if you have a turbo board fitted you will have to use low profile simms. I picked up this info from the Emu site a year ago.... Good luck General Requirements: All of these samplers require RAM SIMMs that have the following characteristics: *72 pin SIMM *70 nS or faster access time *Parity or Non-Parity design *EDO or Non-EDO (Extended Data Out) *Glass Epoxy material, manufactured to JEDEC specifications Most 72 pin SIMMs are standard configuration and are compatible. There is one particular and rare style of SIMM called 'ECC' type RAM has a different circuit design that will not work with E-MU / ENSONIQ samplers. The following information provides important details regarding RAM type and configuration for these samplers: 1.Each of these samplers uses RAM SIMM slots with a total capacity of up to 128MB. 2.Each one of these slots could hold up to a 64MB RAM SIMM. 3.You can use 4MB, 16MB or 64MB SIMMs in these products. 4.If you fill one slot only with a RAM SIMM, use slot 1. RAM will not be detected if it is only installed in SLOT 2. 5.If you install two similar sized RAM SIMMs, install one in each of the slots and the total memory will be the sum of the two RAM SIMMs. For example, two 16MB SIMMs will provide 32MB of sample memory. 6.If you install two different size RAMs, install the LARGER size SIMM in SLOT 1. The SMALLER sized RAM should be installed in SLOT 2. 7.When you install two different size RAM, your total amount of RAM will be the capacity of SLOT 1 plus HALF of the capacity of slot 2. For example, if you install a 64MB SIMM in slot 1 and a 16MB RAM in slot 2, you will have 72MB of total memory. |

Thanks for the info... I will check that site out. I am thinking about upgrading to 64mb. Funny how my esi2000 has the same computer as your esi4000... mine says esi4000 when it boots up.

The ESi 2000 is the same family as 4000 -in fact it replaced it
(I don't know what they were thinking about with the model number sequence). Happy to help. |
