As far as I know semi-weighted keys don't use any type of lever action weight as a mechanism. This would make them... well... not really weighted at all (in the sense of replicating a piano's hammer mechanism), and consequently don't really feel like a piano at all. It all gets back to what you want to do with it. If you learn on a non or semi-weighted keyboard and then one day someone askes you to play your new songs on a piano for them, your going to have a hard time.

I ordered the teaching software but haven't purchased the keyboard yet. My G5 arrived today. I'll send a photo once I have everything set up. -Kirk

Still need to learn to play the piano keyboard, but the software is pretty good. Even teaches you to read music.
