Hey all...glad to be a part of this site\forum..happy 2005./...

I just have 2 quick questions about the new Mac Mini...

Due to budget constraints I ordered the Mac Mini as a better DAW than what I am using....after countless blue screens and crashes im switching to a Mac......but anyway how do you all think the Mac Mini will stack up in recording music?? I mainly do hip hope so I really only need about 10 tracks....I purchased the 1.4 g4 mini with 512 ram.....and the 80gig hard drive......Please any insights are welcome ...THANKS!!!!!!!

Also thinking about actual devices I was leaning toward Pro Tools Mbox but also have been doing a little research and for about the same amount of money I could get the cheapest MOTU ..... Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Glad to be a part of the forums....Thanks to everyone in advance,..!!!

Hi, just saw this article , it states that the audio out port of the Mac mini also doubles as a line in!!
Specs on the Apple page state only line out - so who's right?

Thanks,

Frank

It's just a line out, headphone out jack. You'll have to do audio in with USB or FW.

When it comes down to it the mini is really just an iBook in a box, it has plenty of power for any music related tasks. I have done everything from recording, editing, mixing, and performances and not had a clich. Speaking of NAMM there were iPods, iBooks and Mini's all over the show. One group playing on the floor had replaced their drummer with 2 iPods. And at one of the nightly shows Steve Stevens was playing, and had all of his effects on a Mac Mini and ran them all via a touch screen....

I myself plan to get a mac mini to replace my iMac internet machine. I like the size and price. as for my music I will still have to go for a G5 when my funds become avilable. I just worry with the one ram slot on the mac mini. as time goes so does the ram specs for every program and I would hate to be stuck with one slot. The mac mini is a good machine and I plan on getting one and I may even do some audio editing on it. biggrin.gif
