Hi, I have got an ibook g4 with os x 10.3.9. I am looking to buy logic pro 7.2 but I don't think it will run on 10.3.9 is this true? If it is, how do I upgrade to 10.4.3, I looked on apple site and tried to upgrade to 10.4.3 but when I downloaded it it said I couldn't run it. Do I have to upgrade step by step i.e. 10.3.9 - 10.4 - 10.4.1 and so on. If I do manage to get 10.4.3 will my little lap top run pro 7 well enough. I've got 768 mb and 1.2 GHz thingy and a 160 gb external hard drive. As you may have guessed I am a computer idiot and do not understand anything beyond music software. Basically I need an idiots guide to getting my ibook as it is, to a state where I can run pro 7 without spending any or much money. Please help if I havn't confused you huh.gif

(no it won't run in Panther)

First, check everything you'll need will run in tiger, and what you do have to update.

In order to upgrade to 10.4.x you need a Tiger (10.4) install DVD, so it's time shopping or run the classifieds…

Once you've got it. First, back up as there's no way back in case. If you need back up strategy, I left it to someone else to keep things clear on the system issue (you can ask the system to make it for you). Second, you'll have to install a new OS (so it's a good idea to start on a formated hard drive, less headaches after.

Once you have 10.4 installed, crate a first admin account, connect to the internet and retrive the "Combo" update of the 10.4.3 to jump directly from 10.4 to 10.4.3 (always use the combo updates, not the incremental ones). Once it's done, you'll have a bunch of other updates to make automatically from the automatic update tool of the system. Be careful about Quicktime, don't jump to the last version on the spot.

Next you can create a new user (your current one) as admin, and retrieve your data from the back up and install your software.

Before starting everything, it'll be better to clear the back up issue (I've always done it my own way, very hands in the engine, and it's not for the faint hearted, I don't like to move system preference files around rom an old system to a new one and it'd be rather dull and difficult to follow), it's better to rely on people who do this a more "normal" way.

As it's a big job and one not to do badly, I'd urge you to wait until others come and have their say on the whole shebang.
