Don´t get me wrong, I´m not a fan of Apple´s policy on OSX pricing either, but I think anyone doing audio on osx will have to swallow hard and just get Jaguar. I´m using the retail build (downloaded, since I preordered 4 weeks ago and couldn´t wait :) ).
The integration of MIDI and Audio in the System Preferences is very nice and I doubt that MIDI drivers written for 10.2 will work in 10.1.x. Audio drivers don´t seem to be a problem, the Hammerfall alpha drivers work just as buggy under 10.2 as under 10.1.5. However there´s a Cardbus symbol in the top bar now, just like it was mounted on the desktop in os9. And yeah, the 30% speed improvement is true (on a Powerbook 800 at least). All my audio applications work flawlessly under 10.2 as well, so noone has to worry about their expensive software not being supported. Now if only emagic brings on those midi drivers and the osx version of Logic.... |
