AND here i was all set to go super portable with a rackmount 896 and a suped up powerbook. this has set my decision making process back like three or four months i am now that convinced i will never have final decisions about my studio. i searched the forums and didn't see any other posts about this yet. gosh and GAHHH!!! To be sure, the Digi 002 is worthy of some drool. I'm still going to get the motu 828, as it better suits my purposes and my bank account.
As far as the number of preamps...I guess that you can't everything. It is an interface AND a control surface, mind you, and my guess would be that the 1/4" jacks are balanced. This will be marketed as the step above the 001 and they're targeting portable pro's who need balanced ins. Just my opinion (hope). Digi consistently pisses me off with their "our way or the highway" strategy, but I am also consistently impressed with the quality of what they put out. -------------------- jray : Seattle WA USA
