I'm a collage composer and am getting an Ibook 600mhz, want to know if prot-tools le or protools free, or any version of pro tools for that matter will sync audio clips together, like Sonar, Dp, or acid.

The best thing about ProTools is the straight forward approach to recording and mixing. It much like using an actual mixing console and allows for recordings to be edited much like tape in the analog world but with non-destructive editing. So if you have any type of background with analog equipment... you may find that using PT is a delight. You can layer up to 24 tracks (12 stereo) on LE and if you set tempo properly, aligning and sequencing can be a breeze. Oh, and the word is PT LE is getting an update soon to 5.3 that will allow up to 32 tracks (16 stereo) which is nice.
I just recently took the plunge into Logic and now see why it is considered a better sequencer for midi than PT but I have also noticed that unless you are a tweaker and like to actually "score" your midi compositions... PT can do just as well with midi. I have created several multi-timberal songs completely in PT and like the simplicity of its workings where as with Logic... there are almost too many options and it can get overwhelming. So, as much a l like Logic for its abilty to make anyone a "control freak" and flexibility, I am keeping my PT for those times when I just want to sit down and get something done quickly without much fuss. ![]() -------------------- ----------------------------------------
