Is it safe to plug the Behringer Mic200 pre amp straight into the audio plug on my Powerbook? Will the audio plug tolerate recording straight into it with mics and guitars through the pre amp?

Yes you can safely plug your preamp into the line ins of your powerbook. Just be warned that the line ins can be noisey and don't sound all that great.
