Didn't Apple recently aquire emagic? But Logic 5 is still not OS X... that seems a little weird. The only sequencing recording software that is, is Bias Deck...it seems anyway. It seems strange that Apple wants to get rid of OS 9, but there is nothing to use for OS X. I can't find many plug-ins for OS X either.

i believe the saying is "rome wasn't built in a day".
apple have just re-invented their "wheel", loads of issues for them and their developers to clean up. sounds like it's going to be worth the wait though, yes? os9 remains a great os, you can use x for most everything but music, i would like to taste the pie when it's properly cooked... -------------------- one for all and all for one...

There's a Powermac pdf file that say Logic or X will ship late 2002. I expect Apple to either announce and ship at Macworld Paris, Seybold or the AES convention in Oct.
The delays in many OS X audio apps seem to stem from the CoreAudio API not being quite feature complete. |

hmurchison, with the sudden release of Logic for OS X 10.2, looks like we can wear our lumps for pointing an accusative finger at the OS pre-Jaguar like Heidelberg fencing scars. But then, the specs say it's for OS X, 10.1.5, and 10.2, so maybe we'll get dunked instead.
damann: one slice, or two of this nice Apple pie? |

The I/O Kit replace ASIO I believe.
We weren't going to get VST support for OSX anyways as there's only a handful of OSX compat VSTs .. AudioUnits. Waves in onboard TC Works is onboard. and the feeling is positive. If Emagics software for porting is as easy as it sounds then we have nothing to worry about. If Apples SDK 2.0 for AudioUnits is solid with good documentation then we have nothing to worry about. |

QUOTE (damann @ Sep 3 2002, 17:48) oh man, i'm not happy. i usually like a large dollop of vst cream on my pie! VST? That's not cream, that's cheese. Put down that frying pan, I was juuuuust kidding. Do you think there's actually a long future for VST, given the promise of the AudioUnits "standard" <HACK! KOFF! A-HEM!> (sorry, choked on a piece of that pie) looming in the always-bright and always-far-away future? Of course "standard" is something most maverick software companies (but I repeat myself) see as a perfect synonym for "limitation," so who knows how this latest "standard" is going to play (pun intended). Genuinely sorry that your VST investiture is performing (in OS X) like shares of Worldcom. Frankly, I think this whole "transition" for musicians to OS X has been handled by Apple about as adroitly as a brain transplant using a backhoe. |

i'd like the future of vst to be over within 24 hours.
although this could only be on the basis of my being in posession of a collection of "audiounits" plugins that i could consider, in some way, as "comprehensive", as i feel "i need", to "do my thing". and i do have a fairly complete collection! seriously, i do rely on the "experimental" nature of a lot of these plugs. and there IS a very good selection of "high end" stuff. especially if you consider the uad1(i use one), and the powercore. i hope you saw the email i received from destroy fx. it lends a great deal of hope for a reasonably painless transition. plus, we are of course, still not seeing any action (other than motu's x drivers) from motu/digi. we're still talking ALL mac virtual instruments except logic's native efforts, missing. unless you use cubase! or 9.2. in the meantime... -------------------- one for all and all for one...
