 Aphex Twin Lead Synth Sounds |

Hi I'm just starting to learn to make my own music and I would really like to know how one might create a synth sound like those which Aphex Twin uses. There's a certain sound that he uses over and over again in his songs. It of course varies, but usually has many of the same characteristics. Basically every song on the Richard D. James album has it somewhere, espeically Fingerbib and 4. I can't explain what it sounds like, only that it's very pure and simple, most likely using a sine wave. If anyone could explain how to create a similar sound it would be very helpful.

Can you point us to a short example ? It'd help.

You are wrong  He uses primarily analog gear. For example, the series of 12 inchers last year.... all analog gear. |

Whatever he uses now, in an interview a couple of years ago he did say that he'd abandoned all his analogue machines and sampled them instead, so the only thing he needed was his PowerBook. Of course, if he's like every other musician, eventually you go back to the source.

Considering his output lately, I'd say he uses easy chair and TV remote most of all.

 Note there may be a huge difference between the studio gear and the live gear, the laptop may be way more practical. and on my side I haven't read a recent interview about his studio set up… Richard D James going all digital! Blasphematory!  It's not the gear that makes music, it's YOU.
