I need to know objectively and honestly without hype what audio sequencer would be comparable to sonar on the mac? I am a pc user, about to purchase an ibook for music only and Sonar has been a godsend on my pc, but unfortunately i can't have it on my mac.

also can anybody tell me if Pro tools has audio syncing abilities, like acid, or sonar. I'm a collage composer and typically record my guitar, bass, and drums into sonar and then chop them up into individual parts for remixing and processing.

digital performaer is DEEP

I do not know Cakewalk stuff, but it must be as good.

Since Apple just bought Emagic, I think the smart and/or interesting choice for you would be to go with Logic.

On the other hand Steinberg now looks to be THE cross-platform king, so it would be easy to swapp back and forth

...interesting times. The top four are all good (Logic, Steinberg, Cakewalk, Digital Performer). Why don't you just go ahead and download the free protools software and play with that for awhile?

I want to get a windows machine, just to check out Sonar myself- it looks really good.

Sorry I cannot be more direct, but I am a novice, more or less too.

I think if you compare Sonar to Metro 5 (cakewalk), you will be pleasantly suprised. Also you are already using a cakewalk product, the transition may be much easier than choosing another maker.

I don't know how similar they are. I have not had the opportunity to chek out sonar. It seems that metro has everything to offer that sonar has. The only real difference is that metro usus vst plugs and i believe that sonar is limited to direct x. Go to the cake walk page and compare them. I have not in a while.

It's not a bug, it's a feature smile.gif

More seriously, as the main aim is to make some butchery on audio. There is a great soft for that : prooooooooooootoooooooooools (free) wink.gif

you're VST less then but audiowise can't be beaten on manipulation.

You can still vstfy outside of it.

Login, i would say Nuendo is the nearest from Sonar, in terms of ergonomics.
But Digital Performer for example, will go far beyond Sonar, even if you'll have to change your habits. But it will be worth it, i think.
Bye.

"logic is chock full of bugs" would be a forum with only one person posting.
talonffl3! laugh.gif
i've been using logic for about 10 years and never had any of these problems you talk about.
blink.gif
seems to me that your main problem lies in the user interface.
ie: the USER!
biggrin.gif laugh.gif tongue.gif
if logic is so bad how come apple just bought it? wink.gif
and how come logic, after protools is the most used software of professionals?
anyway, peace, luck, seeya all...
