ok i've finaly learned how to use protools free and im happy with that. So I'm thinking of upgrading my stereo system to 5.1 from stereo so before I even commit I wwant to know what would be considered 'better' Surround speakers or bookshelf speakers for 2 rear speakers. I would also like some recomendation on a good brand from your veiw. Oh yeah right now I have 2 12' Cerwin Vega speakers for the front thats all.

GENELEC are a good choice, and very used in europe.
the 1029 are really cheap and convenient, but if you have the money, the 1030 or even the 1031 are fine. -------------------- Prutulz

i don't think rear surround speakers are nearly as important as the front speakers due to volume levels and such. Its really hard to differentiate between cheap models and expensive ones unless you are an audiophile or you listen to them alone without front speakers. Acoustic Research, Altec Lansing, Polk, JBL and Infinity are a few good brand names. Also, note that your will not be able to truly mix for 5.1 surround in PT Free but only in the PT 5.2 TDM full blow version.
