hey,
Gonna need a new interface when I upgrade to a G5... I'm looking at the Edirol FA 66 & the Presonus Firebox. I'm using Logic 7. I know there's the thread regarding the Presonus, but anyone have an FA66? Thanks, d |

Presonus is good. Edirol is a second mark of Roland. I don't like.

Just installed an Edirol FA101... apart from the obvious I'm not sure what the differences are on the FA66 anyway...
Super simple installation on the Mac (class compliant - no drivers needed)... sounds sweet so far and no problems... I like the hard switch sample rate setting etc... Only have two minor gripes. The first is that the two Neutrik's on the front are kinda hard wired (hi-z/lo-z) which means that input 1 is designed for mic and 2 is mic/instrument but switchable... nearly all my apps look for my guitar on line 1 by default. Woulda been nice if both 1/2 were switchable but, I realise, it's a minor quibble. Only other minor downside is the Firewire chain... the FA101 doesn't seem to like additional high bandwidth devices and sometimes will cut out if a new drive comes online. This usually means a quick power cycle and it's fine again but a minor gripe... Other than that it's compact and efficient and I like it. ![]() |

I've been thinking about getting the FA 66 too. How many separate audio tracks can it record simultaneously, 2 or 6?
I find all the promotion on audio interfaces to be confusing. "This unit has one billion inputs and can interface with a blender." Well, or something like that. Anyone else find it confusing? |

Hi
I am also deciding between the fa-66 and the firebox. One thing the fa-66 has is a grounded turntable input, which has got me thinking about transferring vinyl to digital. To do this on the firebox will require a turntable preamp (thought i'm not sure how good the one in the fa-66 is in comparison to what i might buy). Despite this, I have been considerering getting the firebox because i can find no reviews of the fa-66 online. One concern I have, though, is comments I've seen alluding to the firebox having "no midi" or problems with midi. I have an older Yamaha XG keyboard and plan to connect it through the midi ins. Is this not going to work? I am a novice in this game, but I plan to run both through a G5. Can anyone help? Thanks |
