Hi Guys,

My name is Enrico and I have an URGENT nightmare for you kind souls to solve...!!

I am running Digital Performer 3.11 with Firewire 828 (very first model) on a G4.
All of a sudden, audio started doing weird things like not playing back, cruching DP several times, lights on front panel of 828 dancing to a crazy samba...

So I started a calvarly of re-install re-boot re-intsall re-boot just about anything and everything that has to do with MIDI or Audio on the Mac.
The most recent error signs were about the 828 Firewire driver supposedly missing.
So I downloaded the most recent MAS driver and Firewire 828 driver for my DP and OS version (OS 9.2.2).

So, the final final error code which I cannot solve or even think what it means is the following:

Motu Audio System Motu Firewire Audio Firewire Wrappers.cpp 47 (err-4170, type 2)[-4170:2]

Can anybody PLEASE help me solve this horrible nightmare? Needless to say I'm late on a bunch of deadlines, but that's nothing compared to the amount of time and sweat spent to figure this out....

THANX A MILLION,
Enrico

sounds like a hardware problem with the 828. they do fail. i've gone back to MOTU for repairs twice. with very similar symptoms. MOTU takes it back, you pay a flat fee, and they return it (or another identical one) very quickly. and in the meantime, you use native audio...
good luck.

Thank you!

By the way, that's what I am doing already...using audio native, which is not the greatest...wink.gif

Thanx again!

I second our friend Houstonmusic, it looks like the common 828 mkI failure, nothing can be done save by MOTU themselves unfortunately.

Just a suggestion - I experienced the same kind of situation using 2 original 828's. Weird lights, and freezing when opening a file. Worked OK with one interface but not with the second.
Anyway I solved my problem by downloading MOTU driver v 1.2.5 and UNINSTALLED it first.
Then I reinstalled the drivers again and re-booted my machine.
This problem occurred after the latest software updates I downloaded from Mac.
Hope that might help...

Never heard of this one, thanks for the input. biggrin.gif

It's better than the usual issue which is a faulty interface, unfortunately something I've red a little too much on this one.
