I have been using a PC for quite some time now and i am very used to cool edit pro. however due to space limitations i am having to get rid of the PC and move over to the mac totaly.
I am searching for a program that will allow me to do what i was in cool edit pro. I mainly used the track editing features to record sounds and put effects on them. i would amas a collection of wave files then mix them together with the multitrack editor. I have looked ta peak and deck, deck doesn't seem to import any wave files that i have already created and crashes when i load a new file that i create in peak. I have heard good things about digitam performer 4 but i am unable to find a demo to test this software out. i also tryed audocity(sp) but this is not what i require. |

look at emagic's logic / logic express or also Digidesign's Mbox system with Pro TOols, though that is what I have and I'm not really happy with it's quality (Pro TOols crashes sometimes), features and limitiations. Digital Performer is supposed to be good too. Unfortunately none of these things have demos. On the cheap end also is Tracktion, by raw materials software. It's been getting a lot of press lately for being easy to work with and capable for only about $80.
And yeah, Audacity is more of just an audio editor - good for miscellaneous needs. Your peak / deck problems must be some sort of file incompatibilities that, once resolved, would render those programs usable, though Deck I don't think is not as full featured as a 'real' DAW/sequencer like the ones I mentioned above. Good luck. -------------------- -Arvid •• Squish the Squid Productions, Modest Machine

Hey, I know just what you mean. I used cool edit pro for ages on my PC, and its the one programme I really do miss.
I used it mainly for making mixtapes, so being able to see and manipulate all the tracks was great. (much better than taping). I also got into Acid a little, but is there anything available on OS X with a similar visual interface and effects? I'm using Reason 2.5, Recycle, and Peak, and I'm running it on an 867MHz G4 PowerBook with 768MB of RAM. Thanks for your time. |

There is no demo version of logic, except in I think the Apple book on learning logic (30 day thing).
But I can tell you that I got logic a little while ago and I am a convert. It is deep, and it just works, unlike the other stuff I have been using from a certain company called Digidesign. There are a number of things in logic you must learn from the manuals/books in order to understand what is going on, but once you get it, it is really nice to work with. Sure there are little things that could be done better, little quirks, but every software has those. And Logic's little issues are NOT in the flexibility, CPU efficiency or reliability departments. There are a few things I would like to see changed to make audio editing/effect applying flow quicker, but over all I am working completely in Logic now (I mean for a DAW - I also use MaxMSP and Cecilia extensively) and really enjoying it. -------------------- -Arvid •• Squish the Squid Productions, Modest Machine

Hi
Since my last post i've been playing with traktion and live. Traktion is simpler in layout and use, while Live is glossier and more pro looking. I haven't made my mind up yet about which i prefer, but there are demos out there. Hey, who knows you may just find a cracked version or two floating around out there. Good luck Gr00veH0lmes |
