Audiomidi.com is selling the M-Audio FW Audiophile & the Tascam US122 for $199 each. For the home user is there any advantage having the FW connection or does the Tascam US122 have a better feature set such as phantom power for the mics.

I hadn't seen the FW Audiophile before - pretty cool, and great price for a FW interface. The thing that's weird about it to me, is that the only analog ins are RCA. Seems like it's more geared to home theatre or dj use rather than actual instruments, so depending on what you want to use if for... and if you're only tracking 1 or 2 instruments at a time, USB is fully capable, so I don't know that the firewire connection offers a whole lot of benefits.

The M-audio 410 is much more of a professional unit but it is $399 street price. I think the Tascam US122 right now has a much better market than the Audiophile. I wouldn't be suprised to see M-Audio revamp the Audiophile and offer more features with the higher throughput of FW. Myself, right now I have two small mixers patched together for independant monitoring using the M-Audio Transit audio interface and a MIDIman 2x2 midi interface. It works fine but an all in one unit would be much neater in my limited space. With FW 800 out FW 400 products should drop in price so I can wait for a while
