I am abt to buy an I-Bk 700mhz -combi drive + M.box(digidesign). I also have a Yamaha 4track + synthesizer. Do I have enough to get started-want to record vocal, gtr +sounds via synth. Do I need to get rid of the Yamaha 4 track or can I use it?

Now be kind "baby macmusic user" -fill me with your knowledge! Thanks!

i'd say get rid of the 4-track. the mbox will give you quality and more space since you can use the pro tools software which will give you a lot more then just four tracks to work with.

I agree... scrap the 4-track... unless you want a warm, lo-fi sound... which some want and can be used effectively. However, the computer is just easier to use for mastering, mixing, effects, making CDs etc. I switched to all computer set-up a few years ago and do not miss my 4-track...though I have heard a CD or two lately done on cassette 4 and 8 tracks that are great. The free pro tools will most likely be good for you to start with...also, try the free Spark ME as well. Also, you can record to 4-track when needed...dump it into the computer and then effect, master etc. Maybe keep the 4-track until you are comfortable scrapping it.
