 Newbie With 896, is sequencer necessary to hear audio? |

Hello....
I just recently got the 896 and am still waiting for the Audiodesk 2 software to get here, but I got my Behringer B1 and thought that maybe i could just plug the mic in and moniter through the headphone out. However, there is no sound coming out and the LED's remain lifeless... Is it necessary to have AD2 ao DP4 or whatever sequencing software to hear the 896?? For some reason with all the gain knobs i thought it might be possible to just directly moniter...without needing software.....am i wrong? if so....coould you go a step further and explain to me why the 896 needs the software....thanks alot.....instrument p.s. this is cool......
