I have installed OMS 2.3.8 and latest Midisport (2x2) updates onto my B&W G3 with Logic Gold 4.7.3 and OS9.2.
In OMS new studio set up, search for devices does not show Midisport. Yet the driver is in the extensions and the device recognised on system profiler. Any one got any suggestions. Also I have the midisport connected to the midi IN&OUT of a Kawai KI keyboard. The midisport in LED flashes rapidly and USB pulses, is this normal? Is it essential to turn the sound off on the keyboard to use midi (can't find how to do this on the Kawai)? If any body has done this I would sure appreciate some advice, midi is new to me. -------------------- melta

hazaaaH!! its finally working!
What did I do, spent ages sifting thru various help forums etc and found useful tip on wiping then reinstalling OMS (2.3.8) then Midisport(3.0.1) see: http://www.ars-nova.com/techlib/100-070801.html. It would seem the order you do this has effect. I did this, also unplugged a USB to serial converter I had + directly plugged Midisport into USB port of computer. I must also add I correctly patched in my K1 before this too, really useful step by step guide to 'sequencing with the K1' found at : http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/1994_articles...sequencing.html So hope this is of help. One thing, my Midisport 'in' LED still flashes constantly, is this normal?? -------------------- melta

Hi,
Glad you've sorted your problem. I've got the Midisport 2x2 and Logic and I've recently has some problems with the combo but I've also sorted them out for now. OMS can be a problem sometimes and I'm waiting for Logic 5 to come out for OS X so I won't have to use OMS anymore. Anyway, when the keyboard is on and properly connected then the 'IN' led flashes on that port constantly to show that it's ready for action and everything's ok. When the keyboard is off that LED should go off too. The light above USB is always on if the computer's on, but if you want to use your keyboard to play another sound module while your computer's off then you can push the button for the midi thru option. Hope that helps. PJ |

Thanks Kiss Kas. Now thats all sorted I cant seem to listen to GM sounds can you offer any help in this area? (I've listed this as a topic too.)
I have just been setting up my system for midi (audio kidi up to now). I am using a Mac B&W G3, OS9.2, Logic 4.7.3 Gold, Motu 2408, OMS, Midisport2x2 (USB) and Kawai K1 keyboard as my midi controller. Logic Transport recieves midi, I can record visible notes, but I cant hear them, even if I import some midi demos.. I've sifted many a forum but alas no help yet, anyboday?? My autuload song comes up with K1 tracks and the GM options offer only serial ports not the USB. Can anyone help with this seemigly simple, but bastard area; How can I play the GM sounds? How can I play the K1 sounds? And any one want to trade a S2000 for EXs24.. -------------------- melta

I'm not an expert on all this but I'll try my best to help.
When you talk about GM sounds, do you mean the GM sounds on the K1 or thru Quicktime? If you mean that you are playing GM sounds from the K1 then perhaps the midi connection isn't linked correctly. Remember, the sequencer is like a remote control sending info to the synth, the sounds should be played by the synth. I don't know anything about your synth, but usually it's best to select the 'midi' or 'local off' option so that only the notes generated with Logic can be heard. When you said that your autoload song has both K1 and GM sounds, have you selected these in the environment? You should have an environment layer called 'OMS objects'. This layer should contain objects for the K1, Quicktime and the Midisport, whatever is in your OMS set-up. You should make sure that your K1 tracks are set to the K1 instrument in the OMS layer. You can check this in the parameter area on the left of the screen and change it by clicking down on the track name itself and selecting the correct instrument from the menu that appears. I hope this is helpful. Good luck, PJ |

There's insant karma for you, I went to see if I could help another OMS problem topic and found your suggestions on enabling Quicktime by double clicking on the icon in OMS set up (mine was disabled). So now when I select a track as OMS object>quicktime music I can hear GM sounds and play them. However the sound comes from Mac AV, can you suggest how I would route this to my soundcard outputs?
Also Yes the KI instruments are in the OMS object env.window and the KI autoload tracks (in arrang window) when clicked on are in the OMS objects folder>k1>grandpiano. Is this what you meant? In the ENV>OMS objects, does the K1 instrument have to be cabled to the Quicktime GM, and this cabled to my soundcard somehow? Gettin there slowly thankyou.. -------------------- melta

Hi Again,
I don't know anything about your soundcard (I've just got a simple imac), but my guess would be that you could route the sound to your soundcard by selecting Audio>Audio Hardware & Drivers and choosing your soundcard from the options listed. You'd have to relaunch Logic for the change to take effect. Hopefully your soundcard should be listed if the computer recognises it. In the Environment, I don't think that you have to cable your K1 to Quicktime. If you want to use Quicktime for a track just make sure it's selected in the parameter box. When you play on the keyboard for that track the Quicktime sounds should be heard. I think all the sounds should come out thru your soundcard if you've selected it so there should be no need to cable it to anything. In the track mixer make sure that the output for the track is correct ro send the sound to your soundcard; could be output 1or 2 etc. depends on your system. Hope this is helpful. I'm glad you're making progress with this. From looking at this forum it's obvious that OMS is a problem for many people, not just me. xx PJ |
