Well... here's the trouble... i'm going to buy a new iMac... and i WAS going to buy a ZOOM ten-track ministudio... BUT a friend of mine told me... 'hey... with an iMac you can have a portastudio in it!!!!'...
it's just that he didn't tell me how.... i don't know a thing about interfaces for the normal plugs or midi things or software to use with the right interface... what should i buy to convert my brand new iMac in a multitrack personal studio? Thanks Natalie |

Well... i'm going to get the flat panel iMac with DVD/CDRW, G4 700 mhz, 256-1 GB RAM and a 40 GB hard drive...
i've found a way to solve my problem... have you heard of the TASCAM US428? it sounds easy to use... and it's bundled with CUBASIS... cheers! |

That's a nice looking unit. One drawback is no phantom power for mics requiring it (most good ones). You'd have to buy a seperate unit for that ($100 range minimum)
Digidesign is coming out with a simple USB interface that has phantom power (Focusrite pres) and is bundled with Pro Tools LE, the same 24 track app bundled with the Digi001. Not as fancy as the Tascam but MUCH less space on your desk. It will be about the same price. I've used Digital Performer and Pro Tools but never put much time on Cubase or Cubasis. Don't know much about it. |

Oh My God Injetkilo (?) , Your Story is EXACTLY mine, I bought that zoom 10 track/ Drum machine thing they came out with recently, then, took it back becaus the guy at the Store said to have a laptop(which I also intended to buy for music purposes) and that zoom, wasredundant...
So I opted for the G4 powerbook together with Tascam's US- 428 cool blue portable studio.... Just like you. I'm just kind of starting out , but I'm on the road a lot - so It's perfect... But I also got Cubase VST Score which learning curve I havn't been ale to climb yet. Does anyone know about Cubase classes that might be offerred in Major cities? I'm going back to NYC in two weeks and want to start understanding what I just bought.... Thanks so much |
