Hi, i have a g4 titanium 500, currently using Pro Tools Free with an Edirol UA-30 (yes, the USB interface works finally!)

but, i want to upgrade sometime in the near future, and since the Digi 001 needs the extra PCI-slot adapter, I was thinking about the Motu 828, which is essentially the same thing.

My question, though - can you use the Motu 828 with Pro Tools? I don't want to have to learn and use Logic or Digital Performer - I'm a Pro Tools man...

anyone know for sure?

You cannot use Pro Tools 5 LE with the 828.

Only internal hardware is supported for recording. Supposedly you can use thirdparty hardware for playback, but it always crashes my machine.

I sometimes use PTfree to enhance stereo mixes, for multitracking I use Digital Performer, and Cubase(more tracks, more efx, more soft synths, larger choice of hardware). They are more versitile. Pro Tools is more like a tape machine, great for recording, painful for composing.

With the 828 you get Audio Desk (Digital Performer without midi). Audio Desk features OMF import and export. So you can load and save Pro Tool sessions.

Pro Tools free is useless when dealing with sessions from PTle and PTmix, not enough tracks.

My basic setup is 24 tracks in both apps, but I have tested DP and Cubase up to 50 tracks, and my G4/400 didn't flinch.
