I own an IMAC G3 but the problem is that there aren´t any scsi port, so I can´t connect my AKAI S3000XL.
Well....I bought a SCSI TO FIREWIRE ADAPTER / CONVERTER by ORANGE but I can´t get the computer to 'find' it? When I try to make MESA 2 find it it, it says 'NO SAMPLER FOUND' It´s like it won´t acknowledge it´s there? What should i do? |

Be patient. Perhaps noone that has tackled this very specific problem has read your thread yet.
I work for an apple dealer, and we have had terrible luck with scsi to usb adapters, and ultimately we've stopped selling them because they are very unreliable. Why dont you use midi sampledump for the time being? Its slower, but it works. -mike ps. telling people they suck will not help you out in the long run. |

in my experience... never rely on adaptors to fix your connection problems. Another guy couldn't access his sampler through his USB/SCSI adaptor and I made this point. I had tried a Keyspan USB/serial adaptor once. It worked fine for my modem but wouldn't work with my Epson Stylus 600 printer. I checked Keyspan site and it was not on their compatibility list. So I have avoided using any type of 'adaptor' for that reason because most have limited compatibility. This is probably your problem... the sampler is just not an accepted compatible device. Best choice for adding SCSI is PCI card but I realize you don't have PCI slots on your imac so I am afraid that imac is not a good machine for SCSI use. This may sound stupid but I would recommend buying an older powermac that comes with the SCSI connection... linking it to your imac with ethernet and just use the older mac with the MESA software and transfer samples through the ethernet.

Synthethic is absolutely right.
!Never! rely on adaptor solutions!! It may work in some cases - usually it doesn't. I can't add anything to his post - go for a used mac, connect them. Kind regards Walter |
