Better Bass Techniques? And Mix Down Prob, recording bass n pro tools free Options

yo, ive been recording a demo for my band using pro tools free and an imic - we've been feeding everything through a P.A system and the results are amazing quality, apart from the bass, see our bassist plays a 6 string funk slap style bass lines he does the same amount of low notes as he does high notes - thing is on the recording the high notes are really noticble but the low notes arent - i could boost the gain and this makes the low notes sound much better but the high ones like complete shit - so is there anyway i could boost the gain of the low end ofthe track more than the high end? how? maybe i could use a different recording technique: at the moment we are using a line out - into the pa - into my mac - would it be better quality if we mic'd up the amp instead????

also in pro tools how do u mix down some tracks , but not all of them - see we have our vocals spread over three tracks , which witheverything else takes up three tracks - so how do i select these tracks and mix them down into just one track? so i can make room for the others??

actually... using some EQ on the bass might help.... just boost lower frequenies a bit say around 200hz and below would be good to boost... also might condsider some compression but not sure if that help unless its a multiband compressor

simply mute the tracks you don't want into the mix down and bounce to disk... then goto the "import audio to track" function in file menu and select the mix you just bounced out and it will pull it back in. Then you delete the seperate tracks from your submix.

Would it be the mic you are you using for the bass doesn't like low notes? Do you get Audiosuite plugins (including EQ) with PT Free?

This is me, but I would definitely go through an amplifier and then microphone, unless you have Bass POD or something like that. Please remember that bass amp is a part of your instrument. In fact, I consider bass guitar to be only half of the whole instrument. The other half relies on your amps and cabinets and other effects as you may see fit. I always try to get the best sound I can create before going into the mixer and/or DA converter rather than producing the sound in the workstation.
