Its' not because apple claims "based on UNIX /BSD" that one is suposed to take that at face value. it's already hard for the userland bits, but for the lower level it's a totaly ridiculous claim.
So, a BSD driver has ZERO chance of being remotely usable in OSX. -------------------- |

It's just a good start for someone willing to develop a generic serial port input for midi in OSX. Darwin is based on BSD 4.4 and this driver is for FreeBSD (based on BSD 4.4) 3 through 4. This driver will surely not work as it is with OSX but can give some hints as it has the UART support for the Apple Serial Port…

You didn't get me; "Darwin is based on BSD 4.4" is not true. "Darwin is THE base for some BSD userland add ons" is true. Thats a mach environment, it's miles appart from anything else.
Meaning that a *BSD* has, again, zero chance of working. If one want info on UART stuff, one doesn't need a BSD driver, there are UART information all over the place, and countless drivers, for countless OSes. -------------------- |

oups… didn't meant to argue, just thought the Mach 3.0 core operating system was based on BSD 4.4 as Apple told it… is there allready a midi driver for serial port under OSX ?

QUOTE oups… didn't meant to argue, just thought the Mach 3.0 core operating system was based on BSD 4.4 as Apple told it… If apple says JUST that, they are on drugs. Mach 3.0 comes from... mklinux. And it has nothing to do whatsoever with bsd. OSX is, in order: + NextStep 4.2, thats and old mach and an old BSDish userland (This was mostly MacOSX 10.0) + plus the Mach 3.0 from mklinux (MacOSX 10.1) + plus (some) userland adapted from bsd 4.4 (MacOSX 10.2) QUOTE is there allready a midi driver for serial port under OSX ? I heard about one, I think. i didn't follow, I haven' seen a serial port in ages :-) -------------------- |

Hi!
I'm just wondering if someone knows if a generic serial midi driver is available for os X. this thread seems dead, but my promlem is still there! I know Geffen and Geethree has done their homework and provided us with such drivers, but Keyspan doen't seems to answer my calls, and my SX-pro card doesn't recognise my MOTU pocket express... Some hints somewhere? Thanks |
