QUOTE (JackC @ Nov 12 2002, 22:15) Something I said? :-/ Anyone? Nah, Jack. I just don't have much information. Neither does much of anybody else from the looks of the dust settling around here. This question of which audio interface cards work (correctly) with OS X or not has been bandied about a good deal; browse the topics of this forum, and the hardware forum, and you ought to find a few relevant threads. There have even been rumors and allegations of audio issues at the system level in OS X, at least when you try to get above the two-channel USB I/O level--which is where you're trying to go--but nobody seems willing to cough up the whole hairball. Buserror mentioned something about this issue in a recent post; maybe he'll expand on it. There seem to be several USB I/O interfaces that are working pretty well with two in/two out. But when you go above that, outside of MOTU's beta (that's "beta") software for their firewire interfaces, I'm damned if I can come up with a single multi-I/O audio interface that I could tell you for certain will work in OS X. It's hard to keep score. Damann can maybe tell you more on the RME and UA products and how the honeymoon is with OS X. I just don't know. From the web sites of the various hardware interface manufacturers, I don't see any rush to slap a Jaguar logo on their boxes. I think there's still termites in the basement in OS X. We'll see. But when they *do* get it right, I believe--and hope--it's going to be very right indeed. |

Hi JackC,
Please be aware if you want to use RME gear in OS X with Logic that the drivers are still currently beta (a new version "beta D" has just been released though). I am still only just experimenting in OS X with the drivers. I have been getting the occasional crackle and pop. I am mostly using OS 9 because of so many VST plugins, UAD-1, powercore etc. The new driver which I have only just installed today and have not tested yet states in the attached readme file "With Logic 5.4 only playback seems to work correctly". They seem to be making good progress with the drivers though so don't let me put you off. Also OS X 10.2.2 has just been released so maybe that may address some issues. If you are interested in the RME gear I would recommend that you get one of the Hammerfal "DSP" systems. I find the "Totalmix" software that comes with the DSP system very useful. |

QUOTE (damann @ Nov 14 2002, 02:39) i'm actually using motu 896 and 828 interfaces with no apparent problems under x. When you say "using," does that include any any actual Bell Labs smoke tests using >2 channels for recording and/or playback? Same question to formatj re: this quote: QUOTE (formatj @ Nov 12 2002, 23:27) I am working totally mixerless and have no problem with monitoring latency with 26 input channels. Hate to pester you both, but trying to get real planet Earth information on the actual current state of multi (>2) channel audio I/O in OS X is like trying to catch a greased pig. |

I'm almost sure I used to have a delete button for posts I'd just made - top right of the post - before I started as a mod. I am absolutely sure I had an edit button. I'll check with the plumber
