I've been running Pro Tools 7 on my old 15" Powerbook G4, and everything worked fine. I recently switched to the new Mac Pro quad 3.0 GHz 2 GB ram, Mac OS 10.4.8- and tried to install PT 7. The installation went fine (twice), but when I try to run PT the screen greys out and says I have to resart my comp. Is this a compatibility issue with the mac pro?
Or maybe something to do with my syncing with my powerbook when I set up the mac pro? |

Repair permissions, etc. I don't think either your Mac or 10.4.8 have been qualified for PT use (although I've been running 10.4.8 on my G5 tower without issue). Check the compat list at Digi's site. While you're there, pop into the DUC and see if anyone else with your setup is having the same hassle. Obviously, you shouldn't get kernal panics when starting it up. |

Pro Tools 7 only works on G5 computers. The Mac Pro has Intel Processors and you need Pro Tools HD 7.2.1 software. If you have 7.2, the Mac Pro -compatible 7.2.1 is a free download.

Pro Tools LE 7.1.1 is Intel-compatible and runs on my Intel iMac, OS X 10.4.7. However, Pro Tools does not yet support OS X 10.4.8. Don't know about Pro Tools HD.

The compato page gives the 10.4.7 as compatible, and 10.4.8 in testing.
Now it depends of the PT version too, check the page! Now, the fact the version of OS X is not said compatible does not mean it won't work, so if it's not the PT version itself, I'd look for some issue on the computer hardware. Once we'll know about the PT version, we'll see further on. If PT was having real troubles they would advertise NOT to try in anyway under 10.4.8 as they did before. so I expect it's more the version of PT or some installation issue… -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

7.1.3 seems to be the best version for Intel Macs like yours.

Hello,
I think I have the same problem. I need some help. I've bought a ProTools LE 7.0 MBox2 last spring. I used with a PC that time and it was working well. I've just bought a MacBook (not a PRO) with an OSX 10.4.9 operating system. I'd like to use the ProTools on this Mac. I've tried to install it but it isn't working.. the USB LED on the MBOX doesn't illuminate. I've done the installation as it is in the Getting started Guide, I reinstalled it 3 times, I restarted the computer 6 times, everything is connected to each other. I downloaded an update and installed the 7.0 to 7.1 update. But it's still not working. I use the same audio drive I used for the PC, and I formated it with the Mac (MAC OS Extended (Journaled))before the installation. It's connected with a firewire cable. Although the ProTools program is installed to the Applications folder on the Startup disc (as it said in the guide). Can you help me to make it work? What should I do? Do I have to buy the new ProTools?? Or could I just download the update? If that's the solution...which update exactly? Thank You! |

As stated here PT should work, I'm not up to date with the compatibility version (user feedback), I'm going to check that and I get back to you

I checked as I could around here (in the French forums), it seems there's issues on the way people do the update to 10.4.9. A "combo" update (the combo updater is available at Apple download) should make things go back to normal. Now I can't be definite on the PT version, but 7.1 and up are ok seemingly. there's some blur on the edges here.
Can someone confirm? Before making the update, check your drive and permissions with the Apple disk utility, apply the combo, recheck the permissions. It smooths out any issue in this direction. -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home
