Hello everyone. I've been having trouble getting my Macbook to perform as well as I think it should. It's an Intel 2 gig with a gig of ram. It's not the Macbook pro. I'm currently working on a project in Reason and the processor is having trouble playing back my song using only 4 instruments. My old PC with 1.67 gig processor and only 256 mb of ram could handle this Reason project along with Ableton Live and a dozen vsts running.
Is there a way to optimize my macbook so that it can handle this? It's crapping out on me using literally about 20 percent of what I can do with the old PC. This goes against all I've ever heard about macs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

When you can, max out the RAM, it'll love it, OS X feels way better with more than a GB in.
Let me guess… Are you reading/writing audio files on your internal system drive? If so, it's a bad idea, use an external drive for all audio. the internal system drive has already the system, the apps and the swap file to care about, audio swap won't do. Also, in the System preference panels, you should set the energy saving performances to max. -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

Check your software versions, it sounds like you are using a version that is not compatible to the Intel Macs, Click on the apps icon then get info, if it says application(PowerPC) you need to invest in the update. -------------------- G-Dub

If you have a registered copy of Reason 3, download the 3.0.5 update.
This is the only Reason version tailored for MacIntels. You should find the power of your Mac increases significantly with this update. ;-) |

Also in System Prefs. make sure that the energy saver/optimization/better performance is your setting for power adapter. You can set the optimization to be more efficient when on battery alone.

Make sure all drivers are updated! This is usually the problem. Software is changing so freaking often, it is becoming possible that they are already outdated. Also, you will need to make sure they are Mac Drivers. You probably have already done this, but if not, this is the best place to start.
