I need to get an interface that has at least 8 line-ins for my drums. I have an Alesis firewire mixer that works great with my G4 and Garageband. Problem is, my bandmates all use Protools and the mixer won't work with Protools.....anyone got a suggestion for a good interface for my drums?

Try something by M-Audio, some of their products come bundled with a "Lite" version of Protools.

Check the M-Audio site If you have the Project Mix I/O you can purchase PT Mpowered, I don't know about file compatibility between the apps, check Digidesign's site for details.

Sounds like you have a perfectly good interface already. Just use whatever you want program and or interface. You can use any audio recording program that will record aiff, sdII or bwav files. You can import and export files between the programs as long as you consolidate your files from top to bottom and it would even be a good idea to export a dummy midi track if you're in pro tools to import into your audio program of choice for tempo. With some programs like digital performer you can even export your tempo map and makers as a midi file. It sounds complicated but it is simple really, though not terribly convenient, but it's a way to work without buying anything and not submitting to the "incompatibility" consumer exploitation factor.

I just got one of the M-Audio Firewire 1814's and I love it! It works very nicely and, of course, is Pro Tools compatible. I can't wait to finally get Pro Tools on my MacBook Pro!
