I'd definitely recommend getting in touch with MOTU about it; if the hardware is freezing when being turned on (even if it's not connected to your computer) then there's something wrong with the hardware, and there really isn't anything you can do to fix it. If it turns on normally when it's not connected to your computer, and freezes when it's plugged in, then perhaps it's your computer or your firewire cable. Otherwise, call up MOTU and see what they have to say. Cheers!

You can reset the 828 MkII to default settings in the following way (as provided from the MOTU support page):

Follow these steps to restore the 828mkII to Factory Default Settings.

Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
Press the Select knob
Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
Power the interface back on
The same steps can be followed to restore the Factory Default Settings on a Traveler.

Wow, that's REALLY useful, thanks for letting me know that. I could have found it on my own, but I didn't even think to look for it when my buddy's 828 fritzed out. It came back on it's own after a few days, but that might have sped up the process. Cheers!

Haha, no doubt it was that easy. Just never thought to look. Didn't occur to me that the 828 could be reset (which is a silly notion, but oh well!) Cheers!
