Hello everyone, I just started recording and I'm very excited to see such an amazing resource for digital music, whether it be hardware, software or just opinionated musical conversation.
How many times have you needed an answer to a very specific quesiton, typed it into google, and got absolutley nowhere? I don't know about you but that was my previous method of searchin for information. It's another exciting perk of being apart of this sweet forum to be able to have the knowledge of so many professionals at your fingertips. So anyway I'll keep it simple - I just started recording using my 13 inch Macbook. I purchased an M-audio firewire 410 from guitar center about a week ago and I'm using it with my crate PA6FX complete with two P12 speakers. I hooked in my Yamaha S08 keyboard using midi, and have been playing around with hooking up mics, guitars, and basses. I'm currently using Garageband but once I move past a novice stage I'd like to move into something a little more pro. I was considering Logic Express because I'm an apple fan thus far however, suggestions on musical software are a warm welcome. Anyway I record just about everything. The most important thing is to have fun, so if the musical genre falls into my enjoyment relm I'll put it down. I'm mostly into jamming... blues, jazz, but I'll take a little of somehting else anyday. Some of my musical influences include but are not limited to - Ben Folds, Incubus, Jimi Hendrix, Phish, Greatful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Bill Evans, Bob Marley, BT, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Coltrane, Jack Johnson, Modeski martin and wood..... the list goes on but those are off the top of my head. So thanks for taking the time to read this. Any suggestions, hello's, or replys are welcome and again I'm glad to be here and looking forward to making friends and playing nicely "when it hurts real bad, you gotta play real good" -fraggle rock |

welcome fraggle rock,
I think that Logic Express would be a great place to start after you have worn out the options in Garage Band. It should give you all that you need in a semi-pro package. And since the interface is the same as Logic Pro there won't be a huge learning curve if you decide to move up a notch to the full pro suite. Best of luck and may the muse inspire you! peace -------------------- |
