I have recently bought a G4 ibook, and have got Cubase SX3 along with Hypersonic 2.

In addition to this i use an Edirol FA-66 firewire interface.
When recording audio tracks on sx3 the program becomes very slow and fails to process audio tracks after recording about 4 separate audio tracks.
It would appear that the computer is too slow to process the audio, even though it is a brand new g4 ibook.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

If you're using the internal hard drive to record audio it's quite normal you meet closely some kind of brick wall fast. wink.gif

- Have you installed more than the 512 MB of RAM? if not, you should as fast as you can.
- Use an external Hard Drive for the audio files. cool.gif

In my consulting business I don't suggest anything less that dual G5 for SX, on the other hand Logic and DP4 will run fine on a G4/400.

It's not optimized for OSX, it shares the code base with the windows version, so the features in OSX that make it great for media are not supported in SX.

thanks for the advice
It only really starts to stick when i sart using EQ and effects on the audio tracks.
I upgraded the RAM so its now running at 1.5 GBs. It's helped but not enough.
I think that Logic is the way to go really, unless there is anything else I can do?
will running audio files from an external hard drive help that much?

It will help a little bit, because the internal iBook drive is slow, I suggest getting a 7200rpm firewire drive.

My copy of SX now resides on my PC where the performance is good. From my experience I was able to get 40%-60% more instances of virtual instruments and effects Using Logic7 and DP4.

I have no problems with my typical session of 32-48 tracks on a 1GHz Powerbook.
