Just a reminder for some (they know WHO they are wink.gif that this thread is on MOTU software betas. Also on wacky fonts, but less wink.gif

Definitely NOT on VST stuff! (now that I've said the V word, I'll have to wash my mouth laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

btw, if you want to talk about V things on X, why don't you start a thread… seem sensible attitude, uh? tongue.gif

See what MOTU is doing to us. We should revolt. But on a serious note. I was so mad when MOTU started ignoring my emails, that I emailed them saying I was going to make my own damn drivers. now I haven't built them yet but, I guess I am going to keep the faith even though the Delta 1010 is looking really good now. blink.gif

I have a workaround for Deck crashing every time you launch it!

Turn off your MOTU 828 and then try to launch Deck.

I bet if you tried that, it launched perfectly. It did for me.

After Deck is launched, turn the MOTU unit back on.

Sweet.

probably neither, ruxx. i imagine if they were incompetent, they wouldn't have made such excellent products so far, and if they were lazy, they wouldn't have successfully marketed any of those products.

when you say "two year old OS" you have to think about how long the OS has been stable enough to do development on. i don't know about anyone else, but when i was using the OSX public beta (less than two years ago), it wasn't even stable enough to check my email, let alone program something as sensitive as audio software. look at how long it took adobe to rebuild photoshop? and they are *very* agressive with their development.

not to mention the fact that apple has been very tight with coreaudio information up until the release of jaguar. i think now that jag is out, we can really mark the beginning of audio on OSX.

using that attitude, i think seeing a sotfware release by january 03 will be impressively quick.

At least they've got 3.1 for OS 9..
That's a good sign...

Or maybe not....

I hope that they are not carbonizing DP 3.1.

Does anyone know if DP 3.1 will be written in Obj-C??? smile.gif

They told us that the OSX version of DP was going to be out mid 2002, I got all giddy when I saw they had 3.1. I noticed that its OS9. I have lost my faith in MOTU. They release the 2408MK3 and DP3.1 with no OSX support. I'm sorry but the reason developers get prerelease versions of OSs is so they can have the updates ready. angry.gif

quite right, in principle. and with productivity type applications, this has generally worked out. after all, even microfilth office had an x version in a reasonable amount of time.

but i repeat myself:

QUOTE

the fault lies in apple, not in motu. coincidence that logic is the only major multitracker that is os x ready? i think not. apple is playing it close to the chest. perhaps because things aren't quite ready for primetime yet, but just the same...

and in all seriousness, would we *want* audio software that had been built and tested on a pre-release os? for me, the answer is no. i want to know that my software is stable and clean and responds to the os the way i expect it to. just like people say "never get version 1 because it's always buggy" i think a wise course of action is "never develop based upon version 1, because it's always buggy."

of course, all this is a lot of talk. i want dp3 and 828 for osx right now. smile.gif

"coincidence that logic is the only major multitracker that is os x ready?"

So what is Cubase SX then? Been shipping two weeks now and works brilliantly.

I spoke to MOTU people at AES and DP for OSX is just a few weeks away
