Hello:
I'm seeking to learn more about the following, and I can't seem to get a direct answer about a lot of this online. The bottom line is that I'm working with a composer who's never used a computer to record his music (and he loves Mac OS X big-time) for my film. Yes, I'm an independent filmmaker with no distribution deal yet, so money is unfortunately a serious consideration. 1. What is the most cost-efficient and straightforward way of recording music from his Yamaha DX7s via an Edirol UM-1 MIDI-to-USB adapter? The composer is something of a Luddite in the sense that he doesn't want to muck around too much. Intuem seems like a good choice, BUT seeing posts by other folks detailing their problems with this program and their customer service on this site has given me pause. Basically, he wants to plug in his Yamaha into his OS X 10.2, play, and record, which my sound editor would then copy and manipulate in the film itself. 2. That said, what would be a good sound- and music-editing program (OS X) that would enable my sound editor to manipulate the MIDI sound files and integrate the music into the film's soundtrack? He is using Final Cut Pro 3.0.2 for OS X. Any input and advice on this matter would be most appreciated! you need to look at logic audio from apple/emagic!
however, what seems more important to me here is that you need to hold your own with this guy's ridiculous demands! osx works great with final cut, but it's a very different story in the world of audio/midi. it's not the tools, it's what you DO with them... dx7s??? beam me up scotty. -------------------- one for all and all for one...

Hello:
Sorry to see that you have this condescending attitude towards me. As I've pointed out before, I'm a NEWBIE and I have been honest about it. Yes, I've looked at Logic, and that is frankly too expensive for my needs. I will continue to look elsewhere. Thanks anyway. -------------------- |

Hey Ray- if you want to go into the film industry with that attitude your not going to get very far. This pattern of criticizing others for trying to help you out-- that isn't gonna work. Chances are you could be much more prone to sitting down 10 years from now and wondering what the hell went wrong with your life.
just a friendly reminder! p.s. I am a composer myself. This sort of crap doesn't just come to you on a silver platter. I've tried to sequence efficiently for about a year now, with no avail. It takes time. Some get it in the first week, some don't. My advice is to NOT buy Intuem. Atleast, now with a Roland keyboard. But it might work on your friendly composers. Too expensive still? Try Jasmine 1.0 ( LOL ) It's free. - jeffffff4ro -------------------- "history repeats itself, so the best thing to do is rewrite the future"

i certainly do NOT have a condescending attitude towards you.
actually, just trying to help! the problem, i believe, is the fact that you're trying to use osx for something that os9 offers much more choice for. i guess i misread your post. sorry... p.s. thanks tokyoroland! -------------------- one for all and all for one...

heheh.. carracho.
i used to use that, until I realized that something always goes freaking wrong with a cracked version. but, yet, that could of been just me. RAY: tell your composer to piss-off if he demands that much. chances are he 1) isn't very talented 2) is very talented and doesn't want to work with someone who is flat broke chow p.s. how do you pay for a ^&%$ sound editor?!!?!?! why dont you cut his pay and get logic. or charge it to your credit card like i'm going to do and hope you make some money off your film. good luck to you, really -------------------- "history repeats itself, so the best thing to do is rewrite the future"
