heLLo,
Been using logic for several years now on G4, and powerbook, and now I'm also using an iMac G5(2Go ram). My question is: How come that in the little CPU window in logic the audio level, sometimes, is nearly full, whereas I'm only using about 800Mo Ram and I still have 1200Mo Ram available (shown by MenuMeters)?? This happens of course when I'm using lots of plugs/audioTracks/etc..which I understand. But why is it not taking full advantage of the 2Go of ram? Used: LogicPro 6.4. Thx in advance, FreAk* |

RAM is what the computer uses to store information for instant access (audio files for the sampler pluggins and midi information),
the Processor is whats used to do calculations like calculating a reverb responce and generating synth sounds on the virtual instruments although these work together they are two different resources and therefore each run out independent of the other On logic the CPU meter only measures the processors usage hope this helps |

Thx Citypigeon,
But Im a bit surprised, cause the project Im running on the iMacG5, is the one I could run on a PowerBook Ti G4 with only 512Mo ram. On the powerbook, I was way in the limit, but on the iMac, although I did had some plugs, the level is nearly the same that the one on the pb! There's no way that moving to a G5 with 2Go cant even make A difference from a PB Ti 1Ghz with only 512Mo ram! If I reach the limit of the cpu usage while using only 800/2000Mo Ram, whats the point having 2GoRam?? |
