Okay I have a 15 - inch Powerbook G4 with Logic pro 6 and usually I boot the computer through the external HD. Well, this Saturday I went out and purchased the Yahama 01x mLan Production Studio. The o1x says it needs at least Mac OS 10.3 to operate the OS on my external HD is only 10.3. I am not a stickler to such details but my partner wanted to update the OS on the external HD to at least 10.3.6. When we tried to update the OS it did not work. It seems that we are not the only ones having this problem as I saw a few people with the same issue. Yet still I have not solution. So how can we update Mac OS 10.3 to something higher on our external HD?

Well, which road took you to the not working 10.3.6 ? Have you used the Apple update utility or did you browse Apple updates to use the big all in one file ?

Also see that your hard drive is in shape (Apple disk utility) with enough space left on it for the update to his things. Run the BSD scripts also (use OnyX for that), it'd do good.

I've a few people having problems like this with 10.3.6 and 10.3.7, in the end it was the update that went wrong for some unknown reason. They did it again and bingo. cool.gif

www.macfixit.com has the answer. If i remember correctly, you must boot from the external hard drive and then run the 10.3.7 combo updater. If your external drive is now unbootable, you'll have to reinstall the OS from your original DVD first. biggrin.gif

lepetitmartien, Actually I went both routes first I tried to run the upgrage through the Apple software update and after that did not work I tried to download the upgrade packagae....

I may have to reinstall Mac OS X back onto my external HD and try the upgrade again. I ran into this problem once with an iMac another external HD and with that one I had to download a firmware upgrade...

I have done a few searches and you were right a lot of people have had problems with this Mac OX upgrade to 10.3.6 and 10.3.7...

The grapevine is pretty effective on this… wink.gif

But starting from scratch what a bore… sad.gif
