Hi guys and gals,
The general consensus on this here forum is that Ramjet and Crusial.com have the best success rate with their ram modules. Was wondering though, if anyone has ever tried http://macramdirect.com/powerbook.html ....They have a life time warranty and seemingly deal mostly with Mac. Some folks on this forum have had bad experiences with Omni Ram, but there's no mention of Mac Ram Direct. Wanna get the best ram for my Alum. Powerbook G4 / 1.25Ghz, but I think that the AppleStore price is absolutely outrageous. I recently purchased 1GB of Corsair Ram at Microcenter, which I've read has high praise, but as it turns out, is not tested for Macs. Sure enough, did not work, so now I'm at a stand still and a bit wary. Any input would be greatly appreciated and most helpful. Nels |

Never buy mac non tested RAM if you're in a hurry, seemingly spec compliant modules may not work perfectly or even not at all (giving a sad mac/black screen/void in nothingness). I can't tell upon the sources you give, unfortunately (last ram purchase was 2 years ago and on ebay for PC 133 for PC RAM, 4 modules bought, 2 working, resold the other 2).

In the USA I like http://www.datamem.com Data Memory Systems. They are Mac people and have been in business for 17 years (they beat us by 1 year!) You are guaranteed to get the right RAM for your Mac.

Thanks fellas!
Apparently, Samsung ram is what's originally installed in our Alum. Powerbook G4s. ...So, would that be the safe bet? Man, seems there's an infinite market of ram sellers out there. ...And most have the lifetime warranty, so who do you trust? Of course, I'd rather pay $259 or $289(with warranty) for a gig of ram. Especially, since from what I've researched, folks have been having just as bad of success even after paying the $359++++ prices. ....And on average, we're talking about $70 - $100 in savings. I could actually max out my Powerbooks memory at those lower prices. Oh well, I'll wait for a bit to hopefully read what some more of you might suggest. Thanks again, everybody. I've had one good experience with datamem. And a friend of mine who is a mac fix-it around here recomends them.
This time I bought Ramjet (a few days ago) because their 512 module for powerbook Al. was pretty cheap ($99). I did get a pair of hard crashes last night, the 3rd day I had the RAM (machine didn't awake from sleep, then I force-restarted and it gave me a shade of death on login) but after an fsck all problems are solved and I have no idea whether it had to do with the new RAM, or just a coincidence. Don't know if these are the best prices or not, but last year when I bought a 512 stick for my 1.33Ghz 17" the price was great and the memory has been flawless. www.applesonly.com. Current price on the site for 1gig ram = $299 US. Enjoy!

Try googling "The Chip Merchant" their a company out of San Diego, and they ship anywhere. I have been on a Mac since 1983, and I have never found a better place to get the best ram cheap.....
