Apple seem to have rushed this version of Logic, there are plenty new features and some that are missing i.e. the much requested PDC. the cost of support is in line with Apples other Pro Apps, I personally think it's an over charge they should have at the very least an direct email support for free, yes there are bugs and there are cool working features, Apple will come through with this software and make really cool DAW, but they may loose a lot of user's to other DAW's in between finally getting it right.

With regards to tech support, my advice to you guys is this: forget about the tv for a while and make time to read the manual. From cover to cover. Then, when you've finished it, go back and read it again. Read it in the toilet. Read it in bed. Any spare moment you get, read the fine manual. If there's a PDF version of it, get your Mac to read it to you.

Because that's where the real power of any piece of software is – in the manual. I can't stress that enough. And the vast majority of all tech support calls concern subjects that are explained in the manual.

Use this forum and all the Logic online resources for deeper stuff such as bug tracking, etc.

If you hate reading, just try to remember you're reading about a subject that interests you greatly and you're halfway there. Regardless, you now have a lot of reasons to learn to enjoy it – 2,799 of them, in fact.

i can dig. i am not having an unstable system as of yet by turning on the plug-ins, but i have had tons of trouble with my G5 and others haven't. so to each his own in that dept.
i am really confused by the apple help desk support. are they saying that we have to pay 2799.?? to have support for logic. this is the first that i have ever heard of this support. is it new? what is the deal? who can we call to verify?
if this is the case i might just sell all of my apple equipment and go PC. Nah i take that back.. LOL, but this can't be right. right?

how is the petition comming? i signed it, but have not heard any response.

i recorded all day today using logic 7, and did not have a crash. not once.

so i am just going to leave it at that. i am upset that apple is killing a good name (EMAGIC), but they (EMAGIC) did not think of there users either. 1st it was the windows users, and now it is the apple users. what a shame. what a shame.

Okay

everyone else is slowly 'catching up' with the new Logic 7

Most of my plugins seem to be working (apart from the VST FXpansion ones - but I think I need to spend a bit more time on this)

6.4.3 solved my 6.4.2 automation bug - thanks e-magic

The only problem I get is when you get a core audio overload - it crashes out of logic without saving anything.

I'm not happy about the whole support scenario - but - surely thats why we have forums like this - to help each other with problems rather than bitch about things.

If we do that - every time we get a problem - we log it - and report solutions - then - well - we can all save each other $2799 - or however much the support purports to be.

Or maybe this is just another one of those bitching forums?

Be positive ... please?!?!?

I've been using Logic 7 for a couple weeks in production. It works great. However I am one of those people that just bought Logic Pro 6 last month and got stiffed with the upgrade. I did all I could to get apple to do something about it, but in the end I had to suck it up and come to the realization that Apple wasn't going to do anything about it. So I relentlessly bought the upgrade to 7 just three weeks after I got Logic 6. So how is it working for me? Great... I don't regret one penny. I was using Logic 6 with a MOTU 324 card that was notorious for problems, In fact MOTU just told me to upgrade to the 424 card, as they would not be upgrading the drivers for the 324 card. Logic 6 was unusable for anything. It would have freeze ups every session and I could get nothing done. Now since L7, Logic has not crashed once. I have run it for a couple weeks now and Its great.

Yes I do wish apple would support its customers better, and I also was very mad at apple, but the heat cooled off. I thought of switching to PC, but then imagined my PC becoming infested with viruses and going into a state of limbo.

So yes, Apple needs to work on their support, but I don't need anyway. The forums and Online support is better than most call support is anyway. And as another guy put it. READ THE BOOK.

It sounds like you are a Logic hobbyist. Unfortunately, those of us who make our living with Logic don't have the luxury of using a piece software that doesn't work.

Also, please understand that anyone who does this professionally has read the logic manual, participated on forums, used the infoweb before EVER calling tech support. In most instances, we know the program better than the tech support people. If I am calling Emagic, I don't even want to mess with the tier one guys.

Case in point:

Logic 6.3 Platinum was giving me problems importing midi files by the drag and drop method after I went to Panther. Everytime I tried use a function that had been implemented since at least 4.x, Logic would crash.

I consulted the forums, the infoweb, my personal resources in LA and was finally forced to call Emagic's tech support. After 20 minutes on hold, my call was answered and I was informed that if Audio Midi Setup has more than 8 instruments in it, then Logic will crash when you try to import a midi file through the drag and drop method. The solution was to remove all instruments from the Audio Midi Setup.

Now - I ask you, how the hell am I supposed to know about that bug and the workaround, unless I call logic. That specific piece of information was not in "THE BOOK", nor was it anyway on the net including the Emagic "infoweb".

With Apple's new tech support policy, I currently have no idea whether or not that little chunk of information would have cost me $200 or not. One thing I do know is that, Apple would have taken my credit card number before they gave me that little chuck of information and it would have been entirely at their discretion whether or not they did charge me.

Fuck that. If Apple ships a bugless program, I am not going to need tech support. Unfortunately, this does not happen in the real world and I hate to break it to Apple, but charging for tech support isn't going to happen either. Trust me. Try and charge me for tech support, I will single-handedly ruin your brand.

I own a Professional Studio. This is no HOBBY my friend.
Sorry about your situation. I just wanted to let people here know that "I" am not having problems with the upgrade. And I do agree that the tech support situation is a shame.

i produce music for ads and have been using logic every day for the last 4 yrs.
I just started using logic 7 and am a little dissapointed. Firstly whats with all the small scrawny type...I open the sync box and can barely see the numbers. Also now i have to tap numbers in the fiddly little smpte boxes as opposed to scrolling through them with my mouse. Ive found lining up the start of a movie to music to be much more fiddly and time consuming than b4, which is not good when up against clock.

Some great features though include, mixing music down into a movie and some of the extra plug ins.

Ill write more once ive spent longer with it.
