Mydreamapp.com has been hosting a competition for users to vote what application concept they want realized by a group of programmers. The only music app to make it so far is a program called "whistler." This unique program would turn anything capable of producing sound (i.e. whistling, tapping, guitar, piano) into a MIDI equivelant instrument. Instead of adding effects over live-recording, simulate a guitar with your voice or vice versa just as you would with a keyboard/synth.

This program needs your support and your votes NOW in order for it to be in the top three (and then hopefully the winner!) With your vote you also get 2 licensed pieces of software: Overflow (which I am using right now and love it) which keeps all your dock items more organized and clean, and Photopresenter which is a unique photo viewer.

If you enjoy seeing unique and conceptual ideas realized to benefit the Mac music community, I would highly encourage you to vote for Whistler at MyDreamApp.com so we all have yet another extremely helpful and possibly even revolutionary tool at our disposal.

I am in no way affiliated with the project, just an informed viewer who sees the potential in the app. Please vote now, it ends soon!

(I apologize, I don't know what section to place this under)
there's a contest going on over at MyDreamApp.com. thousands of people submitted their software ideas to be realized by pro-programmers and it's down to six. There's only one music app left on the list and it looks like it has REAL potential. Here's the description:

Whistler. A revolutionary music interface for us all. Utilising advanced technology to make music feasible and fun, whilst giving professionals a unique new tool in their studio.

Listens to anything you play to it. Humming, tapping, table trumming, beat-boxing, singing, existing music, guitar playing and of course, whistling. Whistler then moulds it into glorious instrumentational form.
Live playing of instruments. A built in orchestra of instruments, bashes, basses and bleeps. Load your own external instruments and FX (Audio Units, VSTi).
Whistler isn’t just about notes and chords. Tapping, Drumming and beat-boxing can be turned into a mighty drum kit.
Don’t have a MIDI keyboard? Whistler utilises industry standards to route all the nuances of your performance into MIDI for Garageband.
Auto Tuning. Auto Chords. Auto Progression. Auto Timing. Transposing.
Built in Synaesthesic Sequencer. Codename ‘Soundscape’.
Screensaver which plays your soundscapes.
Export to MIDI, wav, aiff, aac & MP3.
Play along with iTunes songs.
Training games.
Collaborate over iChat sessions with Friends. Over audio and video.
Advanced MIDI routing.

If you think this would be beneficial to the mac music community at all (I think it's groundbreaking and could open up for a whole new breed of unique musicians), PLEASE keep an eye on the site and vote when the time comes.

This would make many pieces of hardware near obsolete. there would be no need for MIDI to USB devices as all you'd need is a microphone to capture pitch and modulation from any source (voice, drums, guitar, piano, etc.). It's next generation MIDI where ANYthing capable of producing sound is applicable. Those not good at playing piano but good at singing could create a piano concerto with their voice, or those lacking a digital drumset could reassign the sounds in a recorded drum piece. I REALLY think this is worth taking the time to support, if nothing else to see what comes of it.

If you would like to see this happen please vote

Spread the word, there were 6,500 votes last night
FYI, I have no affiliation with the programmer aside from being a fan of the idea and wanting the software
