Hi,

I wonder if anyone knows of a manual, resource, or tutorial about changing frequency in Bias Peak or any other program. So far, I've mostly played around with Peak's VST plug-ins, because Bias provides no description or manual for their use.

Can someone explain the concept, point me in the right direction for using its power to restore old tapes to suitable CD quality format, and/or tell me where such information exists?

Thank you in advance,
Paul

Hi, everyone,

Here's the story:

As a hobby, I restore (or try to restore) old recrodings of Coptic Orthodox hymns recorded in the 40-60s on different media. So far, the project has worked out well using the simple tools of (1) Bias Peak LE, (2) Raygun; and (3) Audiophile 2496 soundcard in OS X. The results of the project can be found at www.coptichymns.net.

I'm working on some ultra-rare hymns now, however, that were recorded improperly. The clipping is manifest on the tape itself. It is so bad that the distortion makes the words muffled and useless to the listener.

I would like to inquire of the experts if there is any plug-in, technique, or other method that will minimize the prevalence of this clipping and perhaps make the clip sound better.

FYI, the clip is of a single priest with a very strong voice. The Coptic church does not use music in its chants, so there are no instrumentals to worry about. It's just one man with an amazing voice whose mouth was too close to the microphone when this was recorded at the Sorbonne.

If you'd like an example of a good recording of this man's voice, check out:

http://www.coptichymns.net/realaudio/basil...il_fraction.ram (listen to the part from 0:59 - 1:10 to get a true sense of this powerful voice)

Can anyone offer some insight to solve this problem?

Thanks much,
Paul

Hello,

I recently installed an Audiophile 2496 sound card in my DP G4 1 GHz Quicksilver running OS 10.2.

I installed the 1.1 drivers, and so far, the audio playback is excellent. However, one problem remains: I can't reduce the volume via OS X's volume up/down. I also can't reduce the volume via the driver's control panel.

Is this normal?

Hello,

I have a question for all of the professional audio buffs that hang around here.

On my not-so-spare time, I build and run the web site at http://www.coptichymns.net/ , which is dedicated to the digitization and preservation of rare hymns of the ancient Coptic Orthodox Church (talk about niche market, huh).

Anyway, I currently encode all of my audio in RealAudio format via RealProducer Basic. I have a USB iMic connected to my DP G4, which, in turn, is connected to my stereo's headphone check. This is an extremely simple setup, I know.

I would like to begin doing more "hardcore" digitizing. My major concern at this point is that cable going from the stereo's headphone jack to the iMic. I think I would get better performance and quality from an RCA cable instead, right? Unfortunately, my stereo doesn't have that jack, so I guess I need to buy a completely new tape deck to play these ancient tapes and get the best possible quality for further optimization.

Now that you have my story, can anyone suggest a good quality tape deck that works well with Macs? Any other suggestions as to how I can make this endeavor more productive?

Thanks so much in advance.
