Hey all,

I'm running Pro Tools 8 and Propellerheads Reason 4 on a 2.4 gHz macbook with 2 GB of RAM. The other day I had about 10 tracks going (including Reason rewired) with about 18 plugins. The cursor began to move slowly and there was some harsh distortion as well. I haven't been using a FW external drive, just the 5400 rpm internal drive (I know this is kind of a cardinal sin, but I never ran into many issues before).

Anyhow, something needs to be upgraded. I'm just wondering which would be more helpful - a bump to 4 GB, or a 7200 rpm external firewire drive? Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I bought a macbook 2.4 core 2 duo about one week before the new ones came out and I'm having some really annoying issues. I transferred all the files from my old mac mini g4 running tiger via firewire. I ran into some issues with OS 10.5.5, which I had mistakenly assumed was compatible with PT 7.4.2. So I did an archive and install to get back to 10.5.4, but had issues with random programs freezing up on me (ie safari, quicktime). I then decided to just do an erase and install so to see if that was the culprit. It seemed like it worked until I installed pro tools.

It was working fine for about a day, but now I can't get pro tools to load. It just gets stuck at the startup window once the bomb factory plug ins load. Now its not only pro tools that is affected - the mac gets stuck while shutting down and is continuing to freeze up randomly on other programs.

Does anyone out there have any idea what may be happening here? I'm not sure if this is a hardware or a software problem. Any help would be tremendous. Thanks.

Hey there folks,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a little problem I'm having. Here's my setup:

Mac Mini 1.42 GHz with 1 GB of RAM (running Tiger 10.4.9)
Pro Tools LE 7.3.1 with an Mbox 2
Reason 4

I had a feeling this setup was going to be a bit weak, but I got the Mac at a good deal from a friend who switched to an iMac. Needless to say, it can't handle more than one or two Pro Tools plug-ins, and it struggles when Reason is slaved through rewire.

My question is will the newer 2.0 GHz Intel Mac Mini (upgraded to 2 GB RAM) be able to handle up to 24 tracks with plug-ins and run rewire without crashing? I'm living in Korea for about a year to a year and a half, so I don't want to sink any money into an iMac that's gonna cost a fortune to ship back to Canada. A new Mac Mini would be the most practical option for me, if it can handle these tasks reasonably well.

Does anyone have any experience with the Intel Mac Minis?

Greetings,

I've recently picked up an mbox with PT 6.2.2 and a pair of KRK powered monitors. I want to direct all the audio on my computer (itunes, quicktime etc.) to run through the monitors which are connected to the mbox. I went to system preferences and switched the output and input to Digidesign HW (mbox). When I do this however, it says the selected device has no output or input controls. I was told that I could use the mbox to direct any audio on the computer through it. Any ideas how to get this solved? Thanks,

Josh
